Though we have spent most of our days at home, apps played an important role in our day-to-day life. Apple hires venture capitalist Josh Elman to help improve App Store discovery - Apple has hired Josh Elman, a prominent venture capitalist and former vice president of product at stock-trading app Robinhood, to help it improve iOS app discovery in the App Store. Elman announced the news via his Twitter account on Monday, saying he’s also leaving his role as a board partner at the firm Greylock Partners and as a board member of prominent tech companies like Discord and Medium.
UK bans the installation of new Huawei 5G equipment from September - The UK government is banning the installation of new Huawei 5G equipment from September 2021 as part of its plans to phase out the Chinese firm’s technology by 2027, The Financial Times reports. The decision follows the government’s announcement in July that firms would be barred from buying new equipment from January 2021 over national security concerns.
Developers can now sign up for Apple’s reduced 15 percent App Store cut - Apple has opened enrollment in its new small business program that will allow eligible app developers to receive 15 percent more from App Store sales, the company announced on Thursday. Apple says “the vast majority of developers on the App Store who sell digital goods and services are eligible” and all developers need to do to qualify is complete the company’s enrollment form available online.
Amazon Web Services now offers Mac instances based on Mac mini; M1 coming later - Amazon Web Services (AWS) is now offering Mac instances to developers who want to speed up building and testing of Mac, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS apps. The instances are based on physical Mac minis, and you get exclusive access to a machine while you are using it.
Users can now share in-app purchases and subscriptions via iCloud Family Sharing - Earlier this year at WWDC 2020, Apple announced a major change to its in-app purchases system that would let users share in-app paid content with the family. This option is now officially available for developers and users running iOS 14 and macOS Big Sur.
You can now submit your own Google Maps Street View photos from Android - Google has upgraded its Street View app on Android to allow you to capture and submit your own Street View photos with nothing more than your phone.
